Is Asl hard to learn?-loosing my hearing?

i am kinda bummed out as I have lost over half my hearing in the high range, and over a 1/4 in the low range. I am 47 and I guess it would qualify as me being late deafened. It is due to a tumor 2ndary to NF2. I have planned to take a class at the university, and am nervous of its being futile in my old age. So I ask, is it a very hard language to learn?
