What is the use of C Language in real life? I have been teaching C programming since 5 and 1/2 years.?

I have taught C programming to all engineering branch students. I don't know what is the use of C Language in real life. Apart from college nowhere I have used programming. Does anybody in India really use programming. I think that I am doing a futile job by teaching C programming to everybody. Somebody please enlighten me.
