Do you/will you stock up on long-life foods/liquids in case of future resource shortages?

After the last few years of observing the political, financial and moral states of the world, I've started to use my cellar to stock up on basic tinned foods (which tend to have an almost infinite lifespan), along with several large bottles of water. I don't really know what could happen, whether it be nuclear war, riots or farmers' strikes. Maybe I've seen too many movies? With my weekly food shop I buy a few tins here and there and just add them to my cellar. Maybe it's all just a futile waste of time. I dunno, what do you think?
